There is a March Against Monsanto rally this Saturday in Dallas, Texas. Apparently this event is going on all over the country (May 25th), so maybe you could see something similar in your own city.
Regardless of your views on Monsanto, public events like this represent a rare photography opportunity. I’ve photographed a few rally/demonstrations and they’re always colorful and dramatic.

I’m standing outside talking on the phone today and I feel something on my ankle. I look down and this bird is there. I take a couple of shots and walk around, thinking he’ll get bored and move on. He slowly makes his way up my leg and perches on my thigh where he hangs out a while and then finally he flutters off.
Weird.

Note each has their own set of submission/publication criteria and they all seem pressed for time, but it’s a very good way to get more exposure.
